Dr. Mudassar Ali
Mudassar completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biochemistry in India and received the ICMR SRF fellowship to support his PhD studies at Shiv Nadar University. During his doctoral work in the Department of Life Sciences with Dr. Koyeli Mapa, he explored how mitochondrial sub-compartments respond to proteotoxic stress, focusing on pathways such as mitophagy and the mitochondrial unfolded protein response (mitoUPR). After completing his PhD in 2026, Mudassar joined the Stolz lab as a post-doctoral researcher, where he investigates endoplasmic reticulum mitochondria communication, with an emphasis on how this crosstalk regulates protein quality control and selective autophagy to maintain cellular homeostasis under stress and disease conditions.
